General industry applications, for which Brentwood provides structured packing, include the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, steel, pulp and paper, and food and beverages. Many of these applications involve acid gas, alkaline gas, or VOC compound scrubbing from process and reactor exhaust gas streams, storage tank and pickle line vents, and local exhaust ventilation systems.

Odor Control

Nuisance odors are a byproduct of many industries such as rendering plants, paper mills, food processing, compost, and sewage plants. Packed absorbers are commonly used to remove malodorous compounds from exhaust and vent streams.

Chemical Processing

The petrochemical industry is known for making fuels, natural gas, rubber, soaps, detergents, and plastics. Absorbers utilizing Brentwood structured packing are used in these applications for acid gas, alkaline gas, and VOC scrubbing, as well as for natural gas purification.

Semiconductors

Silicon chips for computers, automobiles, and other consumer electronics are manufactured by the semiconductor industry. These chips are made in heavy, industrial wafer-fabs using specialized chemical etching processes to embed circuits into the chips. The wafer-fabs use absorbers, which contain Brentwood structured packings, for acid and alkaline gas scrubbing as well as scrubbing of soluble silanes and siloxanes, which are characteristic byproducts of chip manufacture.

Carbon Capture

Carbon capture involves the removal of carbon dioxide from gas streams, and this is done in two ways: Post-Combustion Carbon Capture (PCCC) and Direct Air Carbon Capture (DAC). PCCC processes capture carbon dioxide directly from the exhaust of combustion processes, whereas DAC processes capture carbon dioxide directly from atmospheric air. Both processes commonly use packed absorbers for CO2 capture.
