Helical Skimmers
The rotating helical skimmer assembly is designed to remove all grease, scum, and other floating material from the water surface, including light, slow-moving scum that will not readily float to traditional scum troughs. As the helical skimmer continually revolves 360 degrees, its rubber wiper blades lift the surface scum up a curved steel or concrete beach and deposit the de-watered waste into a stationary U-shaped trough.

Components
Drive Assembly
The helical skimmer assembly is driven by a gear motor with a cast nylon drive sprocket mounted to a steel output shaft. A steel drive shaft is flange-mounted to the reel assembly and keyed to a cast nylon driven sprocket. Non-metallic drive chain engages the sprockets, which rotate the reel assembly in two self-aligning cast iron bearings with UHMW-PE linings. Multiple tanks can be driven by a single gear motor equipped with over-torque protection, which is also used to disengage a mechanism.
Trough Assembly
The beach plate is designed to allow the scum to de-water before it is discharged, keeping plant water levels stable. The trough is sloped so that scum flows from one side of the tank to the other. All stainless steel beaches and troughs are polished and free from burrs and blemishes, which can interfere with the skimming process.
Reel Assembly
The reel assembly consists of two 180-degree spiral blades, mounted diametrically opposite on a center pipe, that form a skimming surface diameter of 18 inches. As the reel rotates, rubber wipers attached to the spiral blades transfer scum up the beaching plate and discharge it into the trough. Reel assemblies can be provided clockwise and counterclockwise per the direction of the scum pit.
